all walks of life
if you've visited this website before, you may have noticed a change.
beloberlin.com is now all-walks-of-life.com
the change is more than a new name. it reflects the direction this project will take going forward.
when i first started writing online, the website naturally revolved around me (a lot). it was a place to collect photographs, camino notes, thoughts, paintings, et cetera. recently the focus shifted for me.
the more i travel, walk, cycle, work on creative projects, and - most importantly - the more i truly meet other souls, the more i want to focus on life in general, not just my own.
the journey is more important than the traveller.
today, the caminos and other travels are as much a part of this project as the people encountered along them. the same is true for the charity project in ghana, and the many conversations that end up changing the way one looks at the world.
AWOL will be a home for these stories.
some are told through photography, others through paintings or written portraits. some take the form of essays, reflections, or music. others are simply moments worth preserving before they disappear into memory. they may be real or imagined, documentary or contemplative, but they all begin with curiosity.
AWOL reflects what has become the common thread running through everything collected here: an interest in people, regardless of where they come from or where they are going. pilgrims, artists, musicians, teachers formally educated or not, children and adults, … other souls … from all walks of life.
every encounter adds another perspective, another story, another reminder that our differences often matter less than our shared humanity.
the old URL will forward to the new one permanently, and some long-time readers may continue to associate the website with me and the acronym beloberlin, that will still appear on the webpage for some time. that's perfectly fine. every journey leaves traces of where it began.
it will take me some time to build the new webpage to a state, that reflects my vision for it. as you see below this post, there is a new like & comments widget. it is possible to like posts without logging in or having to provide an email. text comments go through a moderation. unfortunately, the switch-over to the new widget means that old comments are no longer available.
generally, AWOL better expresses what this website will be: less about one individual and more about the paths we walk, the people we meet, the things we create, and the stories we share.
welcome to all walks of life.
