cabo san juan
tayrona national park sits right at the northern, caribean coast of colombia.
after the formalities which involve a police check, a check-in at the np authority and later at the reception of the camp at cabo san juan, plus three sets of arm bands that one is supposed to wear at all times, we thankfully take transport for the first few paved kilometres into the np.
then we get dropped off and start our hike. others ride past us on horseback.
it is a nice hike across boulders, through the selva seca. but it is getting dark rather fast, so we pick up speed to arrive at the campsite before they caymans start their night activities.
for this night we have reserved hammocks. with mosquito nets. not needed really, also no need for a blanket. it is still warm when we go to sleep. nothing much to report but that it works just fine to sleep in a hammock.
food and drinks:
everything here is a bit of a procedure. to order you talk to a person hiding behind dark glass in a cubicle, pay, they hand you a paper slip, then you sit and wait. until a man comes out to shout a number and shout once more if nobody reacts within half a second. this time with an annoyed undertone - seisenta-y-ochchcho!
but the food is good.
also: cocteles, bathing in the sun and the water. and reading, conversations, plus more hiking on the way back out of the np.
